I've been away from the game for awhile, so while I've unlocked all of S4, I havn't done any of it. I'm looking for a good goal to get me going in the game again, but a little cloudy on how big of one the skyscale is, and if its worth the work, if you have the other mounts.Thanks for your help.

To get the Skyscale Egg of Air, you’ll need to complete part of the jumping puzzle in Mount Maelstrom: Defeat one of the four champion keepers at the keeps in Mount Maelstrom. This will unlock access to the puzzle for that area. Then comes the Skyscale Ascension which also costs 2000 gems and, as I suspect, no option to buy what I really want. 2000 instead of 1200/400 for branded warclaw. Nice trick. I'm a casual, I play an hour a day maybe 3 or 4 weekdays and perhaps 5 over the weekend if I have time. I was a little put off by the map currency requirements, but ultimately it only took me 12 days to get my Skyscale. Getting the map currency was a bit tedious, but now that I have the mount I am glad it wasn't that easy to get.
Skyscale is by far the most versatile mount in the game and is a straight upgrade to the springer. It is worth being locked behind so much because of how much better it is compared to all other mounts. Once you get the skyscale, other mount become niche situations, with springer and jackel being the worse offender.

The hardest steps are all in the Skyscale Lost collection and any or all of those can be skipped by using Extra Pungent Skyscale Treats which can be crafted or bought on the TP. Personally I recommend trying out each step before using the treat, because some might be easier than they seem and the treats are expensive, but the option is there if

If skyscale is such an important mount in SotO, then it's the right decision to make it accessible for every player. The fact that veterans who already have the skyscale get additional benefits from the new masteries is such a smart move from anet. And the other mounts are still useable, because they have their own special niche in the game.
