A diesel particulate filter, or otherwise known as DPF, is an exhaust after-treatment device that traps particulate matter such as soot and ash. A DPF typically uses a substrate made of a ceramic
But DPFs also have a differential pressure sensor. There’s a sensor on the way in and a sensor on the way out, and it measures the pressure drop across the DPF. As that pressure drop increases, the car knows the filter is getting more and more blocked - because more pressure difference equals more particle load and resistance to flow.
Also remove all sensors. Insert the cleaning agent hose into the opening of the particle filter. Fill in detergent. Shake the can well. Spray the agent into the filter every 5-10 seconds for 5 seconds (may vary depending on the provider). Rotate the probe while spraying so that the detergent arrives everywhere.
A DPF can become clogged by too low coolant temperature preventing ANY regeneration. Best practice is to assiduously monitor your thermostat condition, and coolant temperatures. Low coolant temperature will also wear excessively the glow plugs energized continuously in Partial Load Heating. Get a better mechanic advisor.
